Bye Bye Second Act

E-mail Print PDF

Last fall our leaders in Congress veered from the course of a smaller central government, and opened the door to unrestrained growth in government intervention with the passage of the first "financial bail out."  Most of our elected officials were unresponsive to their constituents. Congressmen have been quoted saying their constituents called in against the bailout, outnumbering those in favor by 1,000 to one. A thousand to one! Americans want better. Now we have gone on to elect a president that is promoting a larger government growing through a system of taxing and spending. We must now ask, of what is this change we've heard Obama speak?

In his first days under the microscope, President Obama has already promoted many government intrusions into private individual areas, all the while, promising the government will provide. The ants are crawling to the honey. And now it's the hard-working patriots of our country who really need "hope" and "change." The kind Obama is peddling, along with both houses of Congress in a Democratic majority, is the change that is moving more rapidly to a country where the rights of the individual are trampled on in order to provide for the greater good. I think of something said by Gerald Ford at this time. "A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have."

The ants are crawling, and they want protection, they want security. During the campaign I personally heard Candidate Obama mention that he was not interested in taking my shotgun. He said he supported the second amendment of the constitution. The second amendment is fundamental to all our other freedoms. The second amendment is the only deterrent to tyranny. Too many individuals in Congress, and that "centrist" president-elect, now our far left-leaning President Obama, seems bent on the removal of firearms from the hands of free men. Think about the changes that are possible for a nation where the people are not free to defend their life, liberty and property.  The people who are intent on perpetrating crime are going to have little in the way of deterrents, while honest men and women will have no adequate means of protecting themselves.  If a criminal is currently in possession of a firearm, the law banning that firearm will not stop the criminal from possessing the gun.  Meanwhile, the law-abiding citizen will be dis-armed by the very government whose establishment was for the purpose of protecting freedom for the individual citizen.  Mr. Obama and the Democrats are disarming us. It begins with small steps seen with Congress banning the sale of surplus military brass on the civilian market. If ammo is not available then a firearm is no more than an expensive club.

Government in its best form will let men be free, and give them the freedom to protect their own life, liberty and property. This is the take-home message. While this seems an ideal, it is the very reason America has been a beacon of hope to the world for over 200 years.  Men are born into the world with the God-given right to life and they have the right to defend that life.  They have the right to own property and they have the right to protect that property. They have the right of freedom and the right to protect that freedom.  Allowing government bailouts, allowing the citizens to begin to rely on an enticingly large government, allowing gun confiscations or, in confiscation's early stages, gun listings, only brings us closer to the era of policy that will promote the "greater good" at the expense of a few, whether they be gun owners or taxpayers. I have been a loyal Republican all of my voting life, but now I am not sure what to do about my political affiliation. Last fall before the presidential elections many in my Republican party detracted from those foundational beliefs that I as a Republican hold dear. Will any politicians stand up for these ideals? I have hope for the Republicans, not much hope for the Democrats. And not much for our new leader, President Barack Hussein Obama.

The ants are coming for the honey, and I believe he's going to find a way to give it to them. All of them.
