If there’s one trend we’ve noticed this year, it’s that the ‘80s are back in full force. So it should come as no surprise that these totally rad, hip, gnarly looks are creeping into the make-up trends as well. Vibrant colors, bold styles and metallic shimmers are all the rage. So crimp that hair, throw on some leggings and get stoked for these fall make-up looks.

Dark purples and earthy tones are a big seller this fall in make-up. Whether it be berry colored lips or purple eye shadow, the dramatic look is sure to grab attention. Just make sure to either do dramatic eyes or dramatic lips – but not both or you’ll risk overdoing it. Smokey eyes also continue to be in style this year, so don’t throw out your black and gray eye shadows just yet.
Despite the recession, gold, silver and bronze are still in high demand. At least, for eye shadows. Metallic colors and shimmering eyes contribute to the bold ‘80s look, especially when paired with a colored eye liner such as deep purple or forest green.
To go with the bold eye colors, use a voluminous mascara to add volume and texture to your lashes. Also beware of over-plucking your eyebrows since a natural, full look is in.

Looking natural is always in style for an everyday appearance. But natural doesn’t have to mean boring. Use hints of color to bring attention to your best features and flatter your skin tone. According to Dillard’s cosmetic consultants, if your skin tone is naturally cool (your skin has a rosy or pink tint), choose pink or blue toned shades such as rose, red or plum. If your skin tone is naturally warm (your skin has a golden or olive cast), choose orange or yellow toned shades such as coral, peach or terracotta. If your skin tone is neutral (your skin has beige tones), choose warm shades. Just because you use a darker color doesn’t mean you have to make the look dramatic. Keep it fresh, relaxed and understated.
Now is the time to experiment with those looks you were too afraid to try before. Be bold. Be brave. Embrace the freedom that comes with the dramatic look before the fad passes and you miss your chance to go a little crazy.
